Third Ward Colored School was a public Negro school originally name Campbell Street Colored School. It was located on West Garrett Street. However, Campbell and Garrett streets exchanged names, and this affected the school name.
Third Ward Colored was renamed Baldwin Graded in honor of school board member and attorney, B. J. Baldwin, Jr. Baldwin Graded was a two-story building.
A new school was built and it opened in September 1949 with six classrooms and an assembly room with a large stage. Due to integration Baldwin School closed in 1969.
