Students at Crockett during Joel Casey's time period got in trouble for a variety of reasons. He said that drugs were not a big problem at Crockett. The main problem he experienced was with smoking. He said, "I think they were challenging the rules as much as enjoying a cigarette. If they could get away with it, it made them feel a little bit better." Students would sneak into the bathrooms so no one would see them smoke. They would have lookouts at the doors, so they would know when people were coming. Even though Mr. Casey caught some of the students, there were many who weren't caught. After awhile, Mr. Casey got a great idea on how to solve the smoking problem. Mr. Casey took off the bathroom doors so students couldn’t hide out in the bathrooms. This solution solved that problem.
